What is Rent-a-Boyfriend?

Rent-A-Boyfriend is a Japanese service that allows people to rent a boyfriend in order to meet their companionship and emotional support needs. The service provides customers with temporary relationships for short periods of time, typically for one month or longer. These "rental boyfriends" offer companionship and emotional support, but do not have any additional intimate services included.
Rent-A-Boyfriend services typically start at around $80 to $100 per hour, with longer term contracts ranging from $2,000 to $3,000 per month. It is important to note that Rent-A-Boyfriend services do not enable physical contact between the client and the rented boyfriend—only companionship, emotional support, and conversation are allowed. This service serves as an option for those seeking out companionship or understanding without having to commit to a longterm relationship.
Since the emergence of Rent-A-Boyfriend services in Japan, companies have been springing up throughout cities to meet the needs of people who aren't necessarily seeking an intimate relationship but are instead looking for friendship, support, and emotional understanding. In addition to providing a range of services—from accompanying clients on dates to walking them around town and taking part in activities together—these boyfriends are meant to make their customers feel relaxed, secure, and cared for on an emotional level.
Rent-a-Boyfriend services in Japan can cost anywhere from $100 to $350 an hour. Customers can choose the boyfriend’s appearance, personality type, and skillset, and some services even offer special packages that come with a unique experience tailored to the customer’s needs. From escape-room adventures and all-day movie marathons to camping trips and theme park visits, Japan’s Rent-A-Boyfriend services are as diverse as they are plentiful.

How Does it Work?

To rent a boyfriend in Japan, customers must first select a package that fits their needs and budget. Packages usually include phone calls, texts, emails and face-to-face meetings with the rental boyfriend. Payment is typically made up front before any services are provided. Customers typically have to provide personal information like their name and age. Some rental boyfriends may even ask for proof of identity before providing services so they can be sure that the customer is not using the service for criminal purposes.
After the package is determined and paid for, customers may meet their rental boyfriend in person or talk via phone, texts or emails. For example, some rental boyfriends offer services such as accompanying customers to events like weddings or business meetings. Others provide emotional support such as listening to customers vent about their worries and offering help with advice. Rent a boyfriend service can be relatively expensive; depending on the package chosen prices range from $100-400 per hour.
Japan's rent a boyfriend market has grown exponentially over the years; Japan's Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications reports that there are now hundreds of companies involved in this industry. According to Yomiuri, the most popular services are those offering companionship and conversation. These men often provide emotional support such as listening to customers vent about their worries and offering help with advice. They can also accompany customers to social events like weddings or business meetings, where the provider acts as a date or friend.
Although rent a boyfriend services have experienced a surge in popularity, not everyone is supportive of the movement. Critics argue that these services are exploitative and encourage misogyny. Some also oppose the idea of men getting paid to provide companionship since it reinforces gender expectations and stereotypes. Despite these criticisms, rent a boyfriend services continue to be popular amongst many people who feel disconnected from society or simply want some attention or conversation with someone that isn’t their family or close friends.

What Do These Services Typically Offer?

Rent-a-boyfriend services typically provide companionship and emotional support to customers. This includes going to dinner, movies, or other activities together. Customers can also expect the rental boyfriend to be available when they need someone to talk to. Some rental boyfriends may even be willing to offer additional services like help with errands or chores in exchange for an extra fee.
The cost of these services depends on the company and the individual boyfriend. Typically, companies require a minimum time commitment and may charge an additional fee for shorter booking periods. Additionally, there is often an hourly fee that can range anywhere from ¥5,000 to ¥20,000 depending on the level of service offered. Other fees may also apply such as travel costs or gift purchases. All rental boyfriend fees should be discussed in advance between the customer and rental company before beginning a session.
As with any type of service, make sure you know exactly what you are getting for your money. Most services will provide basic companionship and may include talking in a cafe or restaurant, shopping together, taking walks or sightseeing tours. Some companies will offer additional services such as cooking meals together, playing video games or watching movies. It is important to request specific details in advance before engaging in any rental boyfriend service. Also, make sure there is clear communication between both parties regarding expectations - including boundaries - to ensure the utmost level of comfort and safety.
Prices vary widely depending on the agency, type of service and geographic location. Basic services typically range anywhere from 1,000 to 3,000 yen per hour ($10-$30 USD), while more comprehensive offerings such as dinner dates and “spoilers” (upgrades like gifts or photos taken together) can cost up to 10,000 yen or more ($100 USD). Some agencies also offer packages and discount cards.

Who Would Use a Boyfriend Rental Service?

Rent-a-boyfriend services are usually used by people who don't have someone in their lives but need emotional support or companionship. This includes people who are newly single, dealing with a breakup, or just feeling lonely and looking for someone to talk to. Rent-a-boyfriend services are also popular among people who want to practice dating without fully committing to another person.
Rent-a-boyfriend services usually charge by the hour and offer companionship, conversation, and basic dating etiquette. For example, you may be able to pay for a date with an attractive young man who will pick you up in an extra fancy car and take you to a restaurant or movie of your choice. The service is meant to provide companionship without a romantic commitment, making it something of a halfway point between friendship and dating.
Rent-a-boyfriend services are quite popular with both single women and married couples in Japan. Single women may use the service when they need a date to attend weddings or family functions. Married couples may also use Rent-a-Boyfriend services if one partner is too busy to join in on certain activities or if they just need some extra help around the house. The cost of these boyfriends can range from as low as $30 USD an hour to upwards of $500 USD an hour depending on their level of experience and the services offered.
While it is increasingly becoming more accepted in Japan, the Rent-a-Boyfriend service requires a huge leap of trust on the part of customers to not only trust that their “boyfriend” won't take advantage of them but also to trust anyone else who might learn about this transaction. In addition, there are still potential risks involved for both parties since few boyfriend rental services in Japan require contracts and background checks which guarantee safety. As such, customers should always be sure to ask as many questions and get as much information as possible before entering into any type of agreement with a Rent-A-Boyfriend service.

How Much does it Cost to Rent a Boyfriend in Japan?

The cost of renting a boyfriend in Japan depends on the rental agency, the type of package you purchase, and even which specific “boyfriend” you select. Generally speaking, prices range from around 10,000 to 25,000 yen for a two-hour session and can go up to 50,000 or 60,000 yen for a full day’s rental including meals and activities. Some agencies also offer discounts when purchasing multiple or recurring sessions.
Rental boyfriends in Japan come in many shapes and sizes, so there is something for everyone. You can choose from “normal” guys through to handsome celebrities, models, and even manga-like characters. Most rental boyfriends offer companionship and simply provide the opportunity to hang out with someone who will listen your worries and cheer you up when needed. A few companies may even offer additional services such as beauty treatments or shopping, but these are mainly aimed at female customers.
Prices vary significantly depending on the rental boyfriend’s popularity and experience, but they can cost anywhere between ¥10,000 to ¥20,000 yen per hour. For example, celebrity boyfriends often charge a much higher rate due to their fame and social media followings, but lower-end options may be as cheap as ¥2,000 an hour. As you can see this means that renting a boyfriend in Japan can be both affordable and expensive depending on your needs!
For those who have the budget but don't have time for a longterm relationship, renting a boyfriend in Japan may be the perfect compromise. Rentals offer companionship and emotional support, as well as activities like shopping or going out to eat at a reasonable price. There are also ‘romance tours’ which offer a package of multiple dates with different people over the course of several days or even weeks. If you’re looking for an alternative to conventional dating but don’t want to break the bank, renting a boyfriend in Japan may be the perfect solution!

Hi Mariana, in Japan you need to be over 20 years old to be considered an adult. We would not recommend for minors to rent a boyfriend in a foreign country without the knowledge of a guardian or a parent. Also, we would recommend for foreigners not to go to places that are unknown for them, visit someone’s home, get in a car with a stranger even if it is rented through our website 🙂
